Finstock: 'place of the woodpecker'

Finstock is a village and civil parish of around 700 inhabitants, located about 5 miles north of Witney and approximately 15 miles northwest of Oxford, Oxfordshire, England. The parish is bounded to the North East by the River Evenlode, to the South East partly by the course of Akeman Street Roman road and on other sides by field boundaries. Finstock supports a lively community life - we have a popular village pub selling various local real ales as well as good food; the school is thriving and a small community-owned and run shop provides a great range of products - food and otherwise - for all. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and provides the perfect location for an afternoon stroll, or something longer if you have the time.
