Fun day in the
Playing field
We have had our new playground for over four months, and
it is certainly getting used. The observant of you will have
noticed that areas have yet to be finished, the teen shelter
roof, the gardens, the bike track and the pathway from the
main road. The only extra progress was the ramp from Hill
Crescent to the path, much to the relief of some of the residents.
The ramp went forward as it was financed by Oxfordshire County
Council. The stone laid along the path was the residue from
this work. The rest has to be financed by the village, and
at present we are over budget by approximately £ 5,000.
Mike Peck is currently in negotiations with various funders
to assist in making good some of the short fall, and we,
as a village, need to raise some more money. In partnership
with the Football Club, we intend to run a ‘Fun Day’.
This will be on the lines of the successful football tournament
that was run during last years festival, with a supporting
car boot sale and fete type stalls and displays, culminating
in a evening of live music and entertainment. Refreshments
and Food will be served through the day. Our aim is to provide
an infrastructure for an event that will be open to all of
the village. Watch out for the posters and the village website
for updates(www.finstock.org.uk).
So the programme for completion is as follows;
Saturday 13 August 2005:
Fun day in the Playing field,
activity
all day ending in entertainment and refreshments.
24 August: Path Laying.
The OCC will be restoring the Church
Path from the top of the playground to the Church. They are
going to leave extra stone to enable us to complete the path
and then re-landscape the sides to prevent vehicular access
to the playground. A small band of willing volunteers are
required in the evening to complete this task.
Teen shelter, planters and bike track: these will be finance
as soon as the monies are available, with the teen shelter
finished before autumn.
I hope everybody is enjoying the playground, and to continue
with pleasure I would like to remind people (little and the
not so little ones) that there are litter bins, please use
them for what they are intended for and not as cricket wickets,
etc. I would like the parents to remind their children against
throwing stones in the playground. I have caught a couple
of children throwing the crushed stone on to the ‘Cushy
Flooring’. It has been remarked upon that some of these
stones have ended up near the cars and bikes parked in the
street.
As I am writing this, the Wychwood Project are in the process
of rebuilding the dry stone wall, please can people refrain
from using the wall as short cut in to the playground. The
assistance of the Wychwood Project is invaluable to this
village and I do not wish for us as a village to loose it.
I have had a recent enquiry of the wood treatment used on
our timbers, our wood has been treated with non poisonous
compounds and should not be confused with the older method
such as such as Chromated copper arsenate (CCA). I hope that
is the information that the concern party was looking for,
and I thank them for their query.
Have a happy and enjoyable summer and I and the rest of
the Finstock Jubilee Playground committee hope to see you
on Saturday 13 August 05
